Principles

When creating generative artwork for Layer, there are three fundamental principles that guide the design and implementation of your work.

Idempotent
All artwork must be idempotent, meaning outputs should not randomize between each display. Your generative art should produce consistent, reproducible results. This ensures that the same parameters always generate the same visual output, creating a reliable and predictable experience for the viewer.
Speed
The visual pace of your artwork should have a mesmerizing and patient cadence that allows the work to breathe in space. This isn't about fast animation or rapid visual changes, but rather creating a meditative, contemplative experience.
Camera
The camera should remain locked off, or feature extremely minimal panning and zoom movements. A static or nearly-static perspective anchors the viewer's experience and directs attention to the artwork itself rather than camera movement.
